…Authors, Scribblers, Quill-Scrapers… being present… it’s part of yer job…

…Authors, Scribblers, Quill-Scrapers of whatever discipline… whether yeez write as a professional pursuit, a recreational activity, or a playing-at-it-to-see-what-happens pastime, if yeez expect to be successfully and widely read by others there’s the wee issue of ‘being present’… I bring this up now as we run into the supposed ‘down time’ of Christmas and the New Year… SOSYAL MEDYA presence doesn’t take time off… there are no vacations or holiday breaks in being an Author… ergo (fancy WURD for ‘therefore’, Mabel), ergo, there are equally no downtime passages in yer turning up and showing yerselves in yer SOSYAL NETWURKS of choice… elsewhere in my SELF-PUBLISHING STEPS TO SUCCESSFUL SALES (wee commercial plug there—yeez may have noticed) I’ve shared the things I have consistently done ever since becoming the victim of the literary equivalent of being shanghaied several years ago… aware of the need constantly to be massaging yer communications channels in a non-spamming way… the old adage tells yeez, ‘mind share begets heart share begets wallet share’… but more importantly, name-recognition and ‘Author Awareness’ goes a long way to helping yer readers keep in touch with yerself as the Author, not the other way around… regular postings on yer blogs, affirmation tweets to scribbler pals, supportive commentary on the Facebook walls of friends… it’s all part and parcel of it… ‘coz if yeez feel like popping off for a week or two at this time of year, what’s to stop that spilling over into the rest of the year?… a slippery slope in my not-so-‘umble opinion… I LUV my WURK… and there’s no way I’ll be seduced into sloping off the job, slouching at the Mac, swinging the pencil lead in these next few weeks… and I’m certain many of yeez Lads and Lassies of Blog Land will be right here with me… the wee guide is clickable below:

…see yeez later… LUV YEEZ!

  1. Reblogged this on Smorgasbord – Variety is the spice of life and commented:

  8. I used to be around always, through thick or thin. I know what you say is true. This is a timely post, Seumas. Thank you and happy holidays to you and yours, however you celebrate. Wish you health, happiness and prosperity in 2016. 😀 🙂

  9. Great post from a master of the game. I’m taking my first steps into this strange and alien land. Have a merry Christmas.

  10. Got some posts planned – quiet time at Christmas means TIME TO WRITE!
I also have a short story brewing in the little gray cells – it won’t wait. Have a wonderful (haggis-filled?) Christmas!

  11. I’ll be here also, Seumas. If I took a holiday, I’d never catch up with my email. Anyway, I don’t have extra money to spend on a holiday and people here depend on me. It’s like running a business.when you employ several people to help you. I don’t enjoy travel these days anyway. I enjoy hearing about other people’s trips, though. 🙂 — Suzanne

  12. One of the beauties of authorish Facebook pages Seumas is that you can schedule in advance. Everyone feels sorry for you slaving away when really you are slumped in a chair from too much turkey, and with a wee dram in your hand. 😀 Don’t you just luv tek-no-lo-gee. As M’Lady Noelle said, it’s also a great time to get back to the writing lark that started it all.
Have a good one my friend, and think of me here working my poor fingers to the bone.(It’s hard work for the fingers to keep lifting that glass) LoL. x

  13. There’s down time? Who knew.
Odd thing about writing….try to get away from it, then all of a sudden all these stories start coming out of nowhere and start piling up. Not right to make them become forgotten neglected orphans…besides they tend to drift off if not noticed.
May not be on stage as much right now, but good time to trap a few ideas and tuck them in snug and warm for later.
Enjoy all the warmth and joy of the season. Merry Christmas and jingle on!
